Founder Story

With her passion for coffee always driving her forward, Noriena continues to explore the potential of Malaysia's coffee production, with a vision of supporting and nurturing the growth of locally produced coffee.

Known affectionately as Kak Norien, her coffee journey began in 1998 at a newly established Malaysian coffee café chain, where she started as a management trainee and barista. Two years later, as the company expanded, Norien became its first Coffee Roaster, playing a key role in localizing their coffee production.

During her time at the company, Norien had the privilege of working alongside renowned coffee experts, including Mr. Kenneth Davids, author of Coffee Review, and coffee specialist Ms. Sherri Johns of Araku Coffee. Under their mentorship, she helped develop the company’s House Blend and gained invaluable experience in roasting. Her passion for coffee deepened when she visited a coffee origin country, where she was introduced to the entire “Cherry to Cup” process. This sparked her dedication to sharing her knowledge, and she soon became a trainer specializing in coffee knowledge and quality control while continuing to innovate new blends.

Noriena’s influence extends beyond her roasting expertise. As the Deputy Chairman of the Professional Coffee Connoisseur wing of the Malaysian Food and Beverage Executive Association (MFB EA), she has contributed to the development of Malaysia’s coffee scene. She has also been a judge at several prestigious competitions, including the Barista Competition at Food & Hotel Malaysia, the Malaysia Coffee Fest, and the International College Students Barista Championship.

A self-proclaimed coffee taster, Noriena enjoys experimenting with roasting profiles and blending beans from various origins to create exciting new recipes and flavor profiles. Her enthusiasm for discovering and sharing new coffee experiences is boundless, and she loves introducing her findings to anyone who will listen—whether friends, family, or fellow coffee enthusiasts.

They Brewed the Coffee!

Kopi Bayan Nuri has been delighting coffee lovers since its launch in 2020, quickly becoming a favorite among family, friends, and enthusiasts alike.

As a proud homegrown Malaysian brand, Kopi Bayan Nuri aims to capture the essence of the traditional "kopi kampung" experience—bringing a taste of local heritage to every cup.

For those with a sweet tooth, Kopi Bayan Nuri offers a naturally sweetened version of its signature coffee. Ground roasted Kopi Bayan Nuri is paired with Gula Melaka, a natural sweetener derived from the sap of coconut palms. Known for its lower glycaemic index and rich nutritional profile, Gula Melaka is a healthier alternative to refined sugar. Packed with antioxidants, iron, calcium, and potassium, it adds a deliciously caramelized, candy-like sweetness to the coffee, perfectly complementing its rich flavor for those who prefer a sweeter brew.

Brewed for the Bold: A Sip of Heritage

Kopi Bayan Nuri is a homegrown Malaysian brand, bringing the timeless "kopi kampung" experience straight to your cup.

Inspired by the Bayan Nuri, a curious and social long-tailed parakeet native to Borneo and Peninsular Malaysia, our coffee blends are all about sharing the local coffee culture with the world.

“Kopi-O, satu!”—a phrase that instantly takes any Malaysian on a nostalgic journey to the local kopitiam. Our Nanyang-style coffee, a staple at breakfast tables and during casual catch-ups, has been enjoyed for generations. With its signature aromatic fragrance and a dash of caramel sweetness, our coffee is roasted with unique ingredients like margarine, sugar, and grains, making every sip a rich, unforgettable experience.
